Sure's Run to the Beat (14/09/2014)

Hello!

Yesterday I took part in Sure's Run to the beat, a 10K run taking place around Wembley Park!

As I mentioned in previous posts I have been training for this for a while now and I was very nervous about the outcome, but I feel like I did myself proud and I was very happy with my the end result.

First a little about the race, it was a run designed around famous DJ's this year it was Nick Grimshaw, Sigma and many more, so you could literally 'Run to the beat', I was looking forward to this aspect as I ran but unfortunately not much music was played as we all ran past the DJ points and if music was on it was very quiet, I wish I had taken my headphones in the end! Anyway..this was my route for the race:

The Route

This was the route of the 10K run as you can see there were a lot of road closures during the run so getting there was a little difficult for me but not impossible, the bus I took didn't stop anywhere near the park (which it usually does) so I had to get off and walk a fair distance even before taking part in the run, lets say it was my warm up.
We were split into different starting times I was in the 'Green Wave' which meant my starting time was 9:40am, an early start for some, but for me I love a good morning work out!
Before the race!

When we got there it was extremely busy and of course the first thing I headed for was the toilet (charming) but needs must before a long run, the queues were massive and I was panicking that I wouldn't be able to start the race on time, but luckily I managed to get to my starting pen in time!

I was nervous when starting off but once everyone around me was running I soon got into the flow of things and felt light as a feather, the course for the race was very challenging and included a lot of hills which I wasn't expecting, but as I had been training around Alexandra Palace I was used to steep hills! Phew.
It was tiring but I wasn't exhausted when I finished, however my face was a very vibrant shade of red, as you can see from the picture! haha.

Me all finished!
As I crossed the finish line I asked someone for the time and according to his watch he had finished in 57 minutes which I presumed was my finishing time too, I was so pleased I had managed to do it in under an hour! However, when the results came up online I had discovered that my finishing time was actually 56 minutes and 2 seconds! Result! As we all crossed the line we received free energy drinks/water/protein ice-creams and a medal, yay!
The DJ's were on the stage and there were stalls with refreshments, I headed to the outlet stores and thought it was only right to treat myself to some new running accessories from the Nike store!
My results- 1769th and 56:02!
I was so happy with the day, if you know me and have read about my weight loss story I would have never thought in a million years I would be taking place in a race! I have never been any good at running, being 'bottom heavy' most of my life it was always a struggle, but after this it's safe to say I am very proud with myself and all the hard work I've put in, not only for this but for the rest of my life!
I work out a lot and I eat healthily but part of me believes I'm still the overweight girl I used to be and I will never get used to being one of these 'fit' people, because in my eyes I'm still not there yet! I love a challenge and now I'm going to work my way towards the big 'London Marathon' so next year I hope to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon, fingers crossed!

Later that day I went out to a local Japanese resturant which I will review on my blog another time!

Do you challenge yourself? If so, why not?

JUST DO IT!

Bye for now
Namaste.
